WEST SIDE CIRCUS OF LIFE PARADE 2013

The West Side Circus of Life Parade is a project I produced in collaboration with WASH Project, a laundromat and afterschool art center on the West Side of Buffalo, NY in the summer of 2013. WASH Project welcomes all, but primarily serves the Burmese and African refugee communities which are prominent in that neighborhood. For two weeks I taught daily, free and open to the public workshops in various forms of costume and mask making as well as stilt-walking. At the end of the two weeks we paraded from one end of Buffalo’s West Side to the other end, culminating in a picnic in the park. I repeated the project the following summer.
